ART 211-212 - HISTORY OF AMERICAN ART (3 CR.) (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

A survey of art in America from Colonial times to the present. In additional to architecture, painting, and sculpture, photography, crafts, furniture, and the decorative arts are included. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an in-depth survey of the history of the fine arts in the United States from the 17th through the 20th century.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

No prerequisites are required for this course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

    1. discuss major artists and developments in American art
    2. identify key works
    3. discuss the significant factors contributing to the special characteristics and qualities of American art
