ART 175 - PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduces basic camera operations and darkroom techniques. Lecture 2 hours. Studio instruction 4 hours. Total 6 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

To introduce art the student to the proper uses of cameras and basic black and white darkroom processes and procedures. This course is an elective in the Fine Arts program.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

None required.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

    A. demonstrate ability to use and operation a camera

    B. produce finished black and white photographs using the darkroom

    C. show aesthetic and compositional aspects of images

MAJOR TOPICS TO BE INCLUDED
    A. Camera theory and procedures, including:
    1. f-stop and shutter speeds settings
    2. depth of field
    3. use of light meter
    B. Darkroom processes and procedures, including:
    1. developing black and white negative film
    2. use of photographic enlarger
    3. developing black and white prints
