ADJ 110 - INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Studies the philosophy and history of law enforcement, presenting an overview of the crime problem and policy response issues. Surveys the jurisdictions and organizations of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Examines the qualifications, requirements and career opportunities in the law enforcement profession. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of the course is to provide the student with an overview of the various law enforcement operations and issues addressed in today's societal environment. This will serve to focus the student on possible career planning.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

A. familiarize himself/herself with the extent of responsibilities and jurisdictions of the various elements of the law enforcement field
    B. learn the basic requirements to qualify for a career in law enforcement

    C. examine the challenges and issues facing law enforcement today
