SPA 233 - INTRODUCTION TO THE CULTURE AND LITERATURE OF SPAIN I (3 CR.)



COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduces the student to Spanish culture and literature through reading and discussing selected texts in the Spanish language. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

  1. To further develop language (communication) skills through reading and discussing texts in Spanish.
  2. To acquaint the student with selected culturally significant texts and literary works representative of the country of Spain.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

The prerequisite for this course is SPA 202 - "Intermediate Spanish II" or equivalent.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The student will improve proficiency in the Spanish language while acquiring knowledge of selected cultural and literary texts representative of the works and culture of Spain.

MAJOR TOPICS TO BE COVERED

The thought and cultural achievements of the Spanish civilization as shown by selected literary and other texts.
