RTH 245 PHARMACOLOGY FOR RESPIRATORY CARE II (2 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Concentrates on pharmacologic agents used in the management of the critically ill patient. Lecture 2 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

This course is offered in the fourth semester of the respiratory care program. This is the second part of a two-part pharmacology class.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

The course prerequisite is RTH 145 "Pharmacology for Respiratory care I" or permission of the program head.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to identify the mode of action, indications, hazards, and complications of:

A. corticosteroids

B. antibiotics

C. neuromuscular blocking agents

D. central nervous system stimulants and depressants

E. cardiovascular agents

F. diuretic agents
