RTH 227 – INTEGRATED RESPIRATORY THERAPY SKILLS II (2 CR.)


COURSE DESCRIPTION

Presents intensive correlation of all major respiratory therapy subject areas reflecting the entry-level and advanced practitioner matrices. Emphasizes assessment, implementation, and modification of therapy to patient response. Lecture 2 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The primary focus of the course is to prepare the student to function at the entry-level and advanced practitioner levels through the integration of material presented in the first three semesters of the program.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

The course prerequisite is completion of all RTH coursework in the first three semesters or permission of the program head.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. demonstrate competency in information gathering, decision-making, and instrumentation skills consistent with the entry-level and advanced practitioners
    2. describe and apply problem based learning techniques to respiratory care scenarios
    3. access and utilize the AARC’s Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and therapist driven protocols (TDPs)
