PED 103 - AEROBIC FITNESS I (I CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Develops cardiovascular fitness through activities designed to elevate and sustain heart rates appropriate to age and physical condition. Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 1 hour. Total 2 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The course will include a variety of aerobic activities that will be used to elevate the student's heart rate (appropriate to age and physical condition) to a level that will improve cardiovascular efficiency.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. understand how exercise influences the cardiovascular system
    2. identify individual target heart rate zones
    3. perform aerobic exercise appropriate to one's age and physical condition
    4. improve one's aerobic capacity

    1. Warm-ups, stretching, cool-downs
    2. Aerobic program development: variety of aerobic exercises
    3. Influence of exercise on the cardiovascular system
