Presents an introduction to carpentry, with an emphasis on residential/light construction. Introduces basic carpentry terminology. Covers identification and proper use of hand and power tools common to the industry, construction materials, construction techniques, safety precautions, working drawings and the team approach to construction. Lecture 3 hours per week.
GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE
To introduce the students to the language and general concepts of residential/light construction, enabling them to effectively participate in a carpentry crew.
ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES
Ability to work with whole numbers, common fractions, and measurement; ability to read basic construction text. Basic verbal communication skills and basic problem solving.
