AST 101 - KEYBOARDING I (3 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Teaches the alpha/numeric keyboard with emphasis on correct techniques, speed, and accuracy. Teaches formatting of basic personal and business correspondence, reports, and tabulation. Lecture 3 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The first course of a two-course sequence provides basic keyboard instruction.  Emphasis is placed on speed, accuracy, and basic document production.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon the completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  1. keyboard the letter, figures, and symbols by touch
  2. use correct techniques in keyboarding which will increase speed and accuracy and contribute to the student's overall efficiency and competency
  3. keyboard from corrected rough draft copy
  4. format basic business documents
  5. apply basic punctuation rules needed in office documents
  6. proofread documents for accuracy and evaluate their acceptability
