ARA 201 - INTERMEDIATE ARABIC I (4 CR.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Continues development of skills of understanding, speaking, reading, and writing of Arabic. Classes conducted in Arabic. Lecture 4 hours per week.

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

The purpose of Intermediate Arabic is to enable the student to become more proficient in speaking and understanding Arabic in a greater variety of situations. The student will learn to read and write more complex structures of the Arabic language. The will also learn to read and write without recourse to translations.

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

The prerequisite for this course is ARA 102 - "Beginning Arabic II" or equivalent.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of these courses, the student will be able to:

    1. review basic grammatical structures
    2. introduce more complex structures of the language
    3. develop reading skills
    4. expand vocabulary including idiomatic expressions
    5. provide opportunities for conversations in Arabic
    6. develop cultural awareness
    7. introduce authentic literary texts
    8. develop writing skills
