ADJ 226 – QUESTIONED DOCUMENTS EXAMINATION (3 CR.)



COURSE DESCRIPTION

Introduces the concept of handwriting and hand-printing identification. Teaches the standard techniques for handling, dating and comparing writing and print materials. Presents an overview of the forms of paper manufacture and duplicating processes. Considers techniques of analyzing inks, paper fibers and print procedures. Examines document photography. Lecture 3 hours per week.
 
 

GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE

Purpose of the course is to provide the student with an overview of the field of forensic document examination including the importance of evidence handling.
 
 

ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES

No prerequisite courses required.
 
 

COURSE OBJECTIVE

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Have a clear understanding regarding the value of questioned documents in criminal and civil cases.
  2. Understand what types of forensic examinations can be conducted on various types of evidence.
  3. Proper collection of handwriting, handprinting, and typewriter specimens.
  4. Aware of the different methods for preparing a forged signature.
  5. Aware of chain of custody requirements involving the care, custody and control of physical evidence.
