FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to provide my Social Security number on college forms, such as the Application for Admissions?

Your Social Security Number(SSN)is not required. It is optional and will be used for registration and as a student identifier in our current Student Information System. If the SSN is not provided, the college will assign an 800 identification number. Access to some services may be limited or delayed, such as tax reporting information and financial aid, where the SSN is specifically required by federal and/or state law.

If you have previously provided your SSN and wish to change to an 800 number, the Admissions & Records staff will assist you in making this change to your records. In Fall 2003, The new Student Information System - NovaConnect will be implemented. At that time, all students will be assigned a new EMPL I.D., which will replace SSN and 800 numbers.

How can I get a copy of the College Catalog?

Call the Annandale Campus Bookstore at 703-323-3185. They will mail you the current College Catalog for $2.75. You may also stop by any NVCC Campus Bookstore and purchase a copy for $1.50. Included with the College Catalog are all necessary forms for admission to NVCC.

What is the phone number for NOVAnet?

How can I find out if there are seats available in the class I want to take?

Login to Novaconnect and complete a Class Search. The number of seats available is included in the information. For more information about how to complete a Class Search, click here.

How do I view the Application Form?

The form is available for download as a .pdf file. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print the forms. It is available free of charge from Adobe. For your convenience, there is a link from the forms page to Adobe's site to download Reader. Instructions for downloading and installing Reader are included at the Adobe site.

Can I get my grades online?

Yes! You can view your grades through NOVAConnect. There is an online tutorial to help you with the steps.

You can also inquire about your grades by calling NOVAnet--703-323-3770 or 703-330-3770 (Prince William County). If you do not wish to have your grades available through NOVAnet, contact a campus Admissions and Records Office.

How can I get a copy of my transcripts?

There is no fee for transcript services. A transcript of your academic records is issued upon a web request through NovaConnect, a written request or upon completion of the NVCC form 125-89, Request for Transcript.

If you have attended NVCC between Fall 2001 and today, you may request transcripts through NovaConnect. Click here for instructions. If you have not attended NVCC since Fall 2001, you MAY NOT request transcripts through NovaConnect; you must request transcripts through a campus Admissions and Records office in writing using the Request for Transcript form 125-089.

This form is available for download. You can also obtain your transcript by writing on a plain sheet of paper "Request for Transcript," your full name, social security number or student ID number, the exact address where each transcript is to be sent, home and work telephone numbers, and the number of copies desired. Whether you use the form or a written request, it must be signed.

Processing transcript requests does take time, so allow at least two weeks for the transcript to arrive. If you wish to send your request through the mail, address your request to the Admissions and Records Office at your home campus:
