Home > About NOVA > NOVACares

Northern Virginia Community College cares about our student's emotional and physical well-being, as well as their academic success. NOVA developed the NOVACares program, which is managed by the NOVA Office of Student Mental Health and Behavior. NOVA has developed campus assessment, response and evaluation (CARE) teams that are committed to a proactive approach to helping our students succeed while maintaining a safe community.

NOVACares online reporting system provides faculty, staff and students a way to share their concerns about events and behaviors that may affect the NOVA community. This reporting system serves as an early intervention program and helps to facilitate a See Something, Say Something culture at the College.

The NOVACares reporting system is used to track and manage reports of Academic Integrity, Concerning Behavior and Code of Conduct or Criminal incidents. Reported information is shared with NOVACares responders only on a need-to-know basis. Reports that indicate severe risk or imminent danger are directed to the college–wide Threat Assessment Team.

The Campus, Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) team's mission is to provide a systematic and professional response in instances where student's behavior is concerning or disruptive to themselves, others or the community. NOVA does not provide mental health services (per Virginia Community College System policy) however, it does provide faculty, staff and students with resources and referrals.
