Student Profile - Oscar Blanco
All of the things I’ve learned as a Business Administration student at NOVA have helped me with various aspects of my everyday life at one point or another.
As the President of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) I use my business knowledge to help lead a successful organization at the Alexandria Campus. During the spring 2011 semester we participated in the ‘Let’s Can Hunger’ campaign sponsored by the national SIFE organization. Since the purpose of SIFE is to use business as a tool to help people in your community, our goal was to collect 5,000 pounds of food between all of the NOVA campuses and centers. We developed a marketing plan and explained how our program would help the community.
Although we didn’t meet our initial goal, we were able to collect 2,500 pounds of food, which we donated to the United Community Ministries.
NOVA has had a positive influence on my life. I came to the College as an international student from Colombia, not fluent in English. After completing the ESL program, I’m now using the English I learned as a tutor to help teach students from other countries.
Students should know how great this college really is and I’m proud to be an advocate. It doesn’t cost you a lot of money to get a great education at NOVA. You are not going to waste your time coming to this community college. There are endless opportunities for you to grow as a student and as a person.
