Student Profile - Fatma Rekik

When my family decided to move back to the United States from Tunisia, my parents encouraged me to attend NOVA. Three of my sisters graduated from the College and went on to four-year universities, so I knew NOVA would be a great place for me to start.

I’m pursuing my associate of science degree at the Alexandria Campus, and I can’t say enough about how amazing my professors have been. Along with connecting with the students, I love how they are able to relate classroom discussions to the outside world. They really know how to make the learning experience engaging.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at the Post Election 2012 Conference sponsored by NOVA’s  Institute for Public Service. I talked about social media and its evolution since the 2008 election. People should understand the importance of social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, because they have an enormous impact on younger generations and how society receives information.
