When you received your student Google email account (@email.vccs.edu), you also received access to Google Docs, Sites, Calendar, and Start Page through it. If you wanted to use a different Google service (for example, Blogger) other than these items, you had to access it at google.com but you still could set it up with your @email.vccs.edu account. While these accounts use the same email address, they are really two different accounts--one you use with email.vccs.edu services and one you use with other google.com services. If you are a user who currently accesses other Google programs in this way, you will notice the following change.
On or around August 22, Google is going to “break” the tie between your two accounts. The next time you log into google.com to access your extra services, you will be prompted to specify a different account for the association. This can be any Google account you have (or, new one you create), other than your @email.vccs.edu account. Going forward, you will use the new association to access those extra services you have already set up. There is no change in the current My NOVA (NOVA Connect) single sign-on process; and, creating the new association will not delete any of your previously saved data.
Blackboard is now available. Service was restored about 11:15 last night.
Beginning Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM and ending Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 6:00 AM, VCCS will be performing an upgrade to the to the Oracle database.

Over the holiday, IT engineers will be upgrading our email system software to the latest version of Microsoft Exchange. They will be making the change over a period of days, so all users will not be affected at the same time. The only changes you will notice are on Webmail and iPhones.
Webmail is the tool many of you use to access email from home or other off campus sites. You should have no trouble adapting to the new version of Webmail. In fact, the new version is very close to what users see on the office computers every day. There is nothing complicated or tricky about the new version. There are even some new tools that you may find very useful. Here are two short videos that will guide you through the changes.
The first one is a short overview YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m9crNdC_Xg&feature=email
The second one is a little longer and demonstrates the changes and features in a more detail http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/code/OWA/index.html
If you use Webmail, I urge you to take a look at both videos. (Regular email on the desktop at the college and on Remote Desktop Access are not changing.) If you have a question after your account is moved to the new version, remember that there is online help right on the Webmail screen. Just click on the ? at the top right of the screen. Also, feel free to click on various commands to explore how close it is to the desktop version of email.
For those who use other email clients, the settings you need will be changing and we will send them out separately. You will also be able to find them on the IT Help Desk webpage.
For those who use iPhones, watch for a special email that will tell you how to change your settings on the iPhone after your email is moved to the new software. You will have a chance to schedule the move before the holiday, if you desire, so that IT Engineers can help you through the iPhone reset process. Directions for this will also be on the IT Help Desk website—and are not complicated.
Remember, check the IT Help Desk website for more information. The IT Help Desk will be staffed, with reduced hours, over the holiday.
