Transfer Credit Evaluation - College Records Office

NOVA evaluates both traditional transcripts from regionally accredited institutions and non-traditional sources like AP, CLEP and DSST.

Evaluation Process

To have your previous work evaluated, NOVA students must:

  1. Be enrolled in at least one credit course at NOVA.
  2. Mail official, unopened transcripts/test scores to your local Student Services Center.
  3. Submit a separate Transcript Evaluation Request for each transcript/test score.

NOVA’s evaluation process can take up to six weeks. Upon completion, you will be contacted only through your VCCS email address. Answers to commonly asked questions can be found here.

Evaluation Criteria

Note: Transferability of credit is determined by NOVA taking into account such factors as course content, grades, accreditation and professional licensing.

Credit is generally awarded if NOVA has a similar class. If a student presents a course that is not equivalent to a specific course taught at NOVA, it may be accepted as elective credit.

You must have earned a grade of a "C" or higher in a course in order to transfer the credits to NOVA. A grade of "C-" or lower will not transfer.
