How to Use the Wait List
Wait Lists will be activated for Spring 2010 in a pilot program for high-demand courses only. NOT ALL CLASSES WILL HAVE WAIT LISTS.
| To view instructions in video format click the button on the right. |
When you attempt to enroll through Self-Service in a class that is full, you will be given the opportunity to be entered on a Wait List. If a spot in the class becomes available, students on the wait list would gain entrance to the class on a first-come-first-served basis.
If you are on a wait list for a class, you will not be charged tuition for the class until you become enrolled.
Classes for which you are wait listed are NOT counted for the purpose of Financial Aid or for credit for anyone required to attend full time.
You cannot use the wait list if ...
- If you have a class conflict, have reached your 18 credit maximum, are already enrolled in another section of the class or you are repeating the class, you will not be moved from the wait list to the class.
- If you are on a wait list for a class but are not eligible to be enrolled for one of the reasons stated above, the system will enroll the next eligible student. You will remain on the wait list but will not be enrolled.
- Class sections that require DEPARTMENT CONSENT will not use the WL functionality.
- You cannot get on a wait list if you do not have the prerequisite, if you have a Hold, or if a wait list is not available.
- You cannot get on a wait list if the wait list is full.
The last day for a student to get on a Wait List is two business days before the regular 16 week semester begins. For the non-regular sessions (1st Eight Week, 2nd Eight Week, Dynamic sessions), a student must also be on the wait list two business days before the regular 16 week semester begins. The last day students will be moved from the Wait List to enrolled status will be one day before the 16 week semester begins(not the c lass start date). Thereafter the Wait List will be deleted.
Using Wait Lists
1. Login to MyNOVA and select Student Center.
2. On the Student Center page, click Add a Class.
3. If the class section is full and a Wait List is available, you will see the Wait List icon as the class status. You can remove yourself from the wait list through Self-Service (same process as drop) to allow other students.
If a space in the class becomes available, then you will be automatically enrolled. If you have been moved into a class from a wait list, you will have until 5:00 p.m. the next business day to pay for the class.
You can see your position number on the wait list through Self-Service during the enrollment period.
4. Click the WAIT LIST IF CLASS IS FULL button ‘on’. The class is then placed in your shopping cart (note the status).
Note: You may see that a class is OPEN, but if there is a wait list, you will be placed on the wait list until a space for you becomes available. You will not be notified automatically that you have been moved from the wait list to the class, so you must monitor your schedule every morning.

5. Proceed to steps 2 and 3. The following page is displayed: (Note that the page indicates Successful enrolled, but in the Wait List. It also indicates your position number on the Wait List):

NOTE: This green check mark does not mean that you are enrolled in the class. It means that you have been added to the Wait List successfully.
6. Check your class schedule; this is what you will see if you are on a Wait List. Your status in the class is WAITING.

NOTE: You are not enrolled until you see that your status has been changed to ENROLLED.
