Provides instruction in the use of computer aided drafting and design software and architectural and engineering software for developing floor plans, elevations, perspectives, shadowing and lighting, and color applications.
Lecture 2 hour. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.
This course teaches the use of the current version of AutoCAD, the standard CAD software in the architecture and interior design industry. Students learn the basic drawing commands through a series of exercises that are directly related to the types of drawings prepared by interior designers. They are introduced to symbol libraries that are used by furniture dealers in specifying systems furniture and they will layout drawing sheets with the software.
This is the only interior design class that is scheduled for two days a week.
Students should purchase and bring to class each class session a 128 mb or larger flash drive. Students have access to the software used in this class in the computer center on the Loudoun campus, however they may feel the need to acquire the software for this class for home use.
The campus is using AutoCAD 2011. Students may either purchase the software for approximately $175.00 for a 13 month lisence or download it for free from the Autodesk student web site. See the Autodesk website at http://www.autodesk.com for current education resellers and to locate the free software.
The instructor will review the options and the correct software on the first day of class. The use of a computer is required for the production of projects in this class.
At this time there is no textbook required for this class. The instructor uses Powerpoint presentations and Blackboard to convey information
to the students.
