10 Reasons to Join Us at The ESL Center
Excellence
| 1. Academic Accreditation: |
The Commission on Colleges of
the Southern (US) Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited
NVCC. Other awards are available upon request. |
| 2. Academic excellence: |
Our students are among the best prepared
ESL students in the area. They achieve high placement in their
academic work beyond ESL as well as strong recommendations from
their instructors. |
| 3. Experienced faculty: |
The ESL Center’s faculty is experienced
and must hold advanced academic degrees. The staff has both
the administrative and instructional experience to help students
be most effective in their learning. |
| 4. Reputation: |
The ESL Center’s students rapidly
take their places in the corporations and businesses of the
area. Many employers seek out The ESL Center to provide language
instruction for their workers. Most students come to The ESL
Center through the recommendation of friends, family or workmates
who are current/past satisfied ESL Center students. |
Student Success
| 5. Wide Combination
of International Students: |
Each year more than 2000 students from over
40 countries study with The ESL Center. In a 2004 poll, over
90% of part-time students plan on returning to take further
courses. Another 7% completed their course of study. |
| 6. Student Support: |
A wireless language lab and ESL tutorials
are among the variety of instructional supports for the students.
Counseling is also available as well as a library, a fitness
center, and a student recreational facility. Intramural sports,
as well as cultural and social activities round out the students’
American learning experience. |
Learning for a Lifetime
| 7. Preparing For The
Future: |
The ESL Center shapes its English
instruction to match its students’ future needs. The students
prepare for the TOEFL, GMAT or GRE exams, for further study
in NVCC’s academic or occupational courses, or for completion
of The ESL Center’s various certificate programs. |
| 8. Variety of Learning
Options: |
The ESL Center’s students chose from
a wide range of language options. They may select from over
40 courses a term. They attend full-time
intensive day classes, part-time
evening and weekend courses, certificate
programs, or workplace instruction.

Your future begins here
| 9. Location: |
The ESL Center is on the most
western of NVCC’s six campuses. Close to Dulles International
Airport, the Loudoun campus is within the heart of suburban
Virginia’s historic countryside. In minutes, students
can be in the national parks of the Potomac River valley. Locally,
the world-famous Wolf Trap Cultural Center and many outstanding
shopping malls provide our students with convenient recreation.
The campus is also within a 60-minute drive from the US Capital
with its museums, theater and cultural events. |
| 10. Convenient Classes: |
The full-time
classes normally have 125 instructional hours and begin
in September, January, and May. Part-time
classes begin in September, January, April, and July and
include 30 to 55 hours of instruction. Courses include the most
basic entry levels of speaking/listening and reading/writing
classes up to advanced classes focusing on academic readiness,
business, or American cultural studies. While not all courses
are offered every term, students normally find a long list of
options. |
Hiring
The ESL Center is expanding rapidly.
As such, we are usually looking for a few new instructors each term.
They must have an advanced degree in ESL or related field. Significant
classroom experience is optimal. The pay scale is commensurate with
the instructor’s level of academic achievement. Normally,
new instructors begin their teaching experience in the evening and
weekend classes.
Please fax your resume to 703-450-2669 or email to loesl@nvcc.edu for consideration in the next term. For further information, contact
