Edith H. Symes and Harold B. Symes

Edith H. Symes: Graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and further studies in art at the Corcoran School. Symes was a scholarship student not only at the Art Institute but in addition at Marymount University. During her art teaching career in Arlington she was named teacher of the year at Taylor School. Symes also was an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia and George Washington University. Her recent studies have been with two noted teachers at the Alexandria Torpedo Factory Art Center. Her paintings are in a number of private collections and she has received several awards. Her most recent work has been of scenes in Loudoun County where she is a member of the Loudoun Sketch Club. She resides in Cascades community with her husband Harold and a Maine Coon cat, Rex.

Harold B. Symes Jr.: Graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a masters of art from American University. Symes was a teacher and administrator in the art program in the Arlington Public Schools. He also taught art education at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia North Campus. In addition he taught drawing at Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus. Symes has had paintings in area shows including the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D. C. and Arlington Education Center, Arlington Arts Center, and the Torpedo Arts Center. He is on the advisory council at George Washington University, Loudoun Campus for art exhibitions and is a member of the Loudoun County Sketch Club. He continues with his wife Edith to enjoy the challenges of painting and exhibiting in area shows.
