Add the Ask a Librarian Widget to Your Web Site or Blackboard Course
This code is for Northern Virginia Community College's Ask a Librarian
chat widget (seen below).
The Ask a Librarian chat service is open 24/7. Faculty and staff may use this code to embed the chat widget in any web page or Blackboard course, so students (and faculty!) have instant access to the chat service.
The widget is optimized for mobile devices. Users must have Javascript enabled in order to chat with a librarian.
Note: this code is for NOVA faculty only. Non-NOVA instructors should contact their college librarians for information on embedded chat options.
Add the chat widget by copying and pasting this code:

Add the chat widget to a Blackboard course:
- Enter Blackboard and select your course
- Make sure Edit Mode is ON
- Click the Create Menu Item plus sign (+)
- Select Create Content Area
- Enter a name (suggested name: Library Help- 24/7 Live Chat)
- Click on the newly-created content area on the left sidebar/course menu
- Click Create Item
- Turn off the Visual Editor (above the text box)
- Enter a name for the item.
- Under the text box, select HTML
- Copy and paste the widget source code into the text box.
- Click Submit.
- The chat widget has been added to the menu:
