COURSE DESCRIPTION

NAS 150 is a non transferable college level science course without laboratory.  This course is designed for students who require 4 credits of a science course planning to enter the massage therapy program and the health technology fields.
This course is a 16 weeks course that encompasses the following topics: Human Body Orientation, Cell Structure, Tissues, Skeletal and Muscular Systems, Nervous System, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic and Respiratory Systems, Endocrine and Digestive systems, Metabolism, Electrolytes and Acid and Base Balance, Urinary and Reproductive Systems and Genetics.

EVALUATING YOUR PROGRESS

1.  LECTURE REQUIREMENTS:
There will be 8 tests, 50 points each (400 points total).  The tests are given in the classroom or the testing center and are composed of 50 multiple choice, true and false, and/ or matching questions. A few bonus questions may be added to each test. YOU MUST SUPPLY YOUR OWN SCANTRON SHEETS (# 882 E). NO SCANTRON NO EXAM!  The scantron sheets may be obtained from the campus book store or library.

NOTE:  A make up for any missed quiz WILL ONLY BE GIVEN to those students with a VALID EXCUSE, i.e., Doctor's note with the physician's name and phone number.   The makeup quiz must be taken within a week from the exam date.  The lowest lecture test score will be dropped at the end of the term.  NO EXTRA CREDITS.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

DISABILITY: If you have a diagnosed and documented disability, which may cause you problems with any part of this course, please consult with one of our counselors as soon as possible so alternate arrangements can be made where necessary. 

ATTENDANCE:  All students are required to attend the Monday sessions and it is also essential that students be available on Wednesdays to take tests in class or at the testing center. If you must miss a class you are required to inform me in advance.  Students with perfect attendance may earn complimentary points at the end of the semester.
 STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE PUNCTUAL FOR THE CLASSES.  ARRIVING LATE DISRUPTS THE CLASS AND CAUSES LOSS OF TIME.  PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE AND ATTEND CLASS ON TIME.  

INCOMPLETE COURSE WORK:

An "I" will be awarded only for extraordinary extenuating circumstances.  Please consult the student handbook for details. 

It is your responsibility to withdraw before or on the deadline. The last day to withdraw without grade penalty or change to audit is Nov2/09.  Failure to administratively withdraw will result in an "F".

CLASS DISRUPTION: Any disruption of classroom activities including talking, using derogatory words and improper behavior will result in an immediate dismissal from class and loss of 50 points per occurrence.  Three dismissals for any one student will result in an "F" for the class. 

CELL PHONE USAGE AND TEXT MESSAGING IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE CLASS ROOM.  FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES SET THE VIBRATING MODE ON YOUR CELL PHONES.  ALL CELL PHONES MUST BE PUT AWAY IN YOUR BOOK BAGS DURING EXAMINATIONS.
