50th Anniversary Celebration
During 2015 and 2016, NOVA will commemorate 50 years of service to the Northern Virginia community. Our region has changed significantly since the first NOVA classes were held in 1965 but our commitment to providing world-class services remains steadfast.
The College has grown to include six comprehensive campuses, three academic centers, and the Extended Learning Institute which offers nationally recognized online learning opportunities. Our programs and classes are carefully scheduled in locations, times and formats that make getting an education convenient for anyone who has the desire to learn.
Fifty years after its modest beginning, NOVA is a vital contributor to the Northern Virginia region. Each year, more than 75,000 students pursue college transfer degrees and career training at NOVA. Another 20,000 local residents stay competitive in the job market through our Workforce Development programs. In addition, nearly 300,000 people visit NOVA campuses throughout the year for various cultural events and enrichment activities.
Over the past five decades, we have gained an in-depth understanding of our service area and we’re putting that knowledge to work for the next 50 years and beyond. Our programs and courses are regularly evaluated to make sure they meet student and employer demands, and our advisory boards help us stay abreast of changes in the workforce to ensure we provide the education necessary to keep our region economically strong.
NOVA’s 50th anniversary is the perfect time to reflect on our past, celebrate the present, and move forward with a renewed dedication to our community. Please join us in celebrating this milestone throughout 2015 and 2016. Share your NOVA story and learn about anniversary events.
