When I graduated from high school I was younger than the rest of my class and I was a little nervous to go away to school. Coming to NOVA was one of the best decisions I made. My time here has prepared me for my transition into a four year university. As a General Studies major I'm able to take only the classes that I'll need to transfer to another school.
I'm a Student Ambassador and it's been one of the most memorable experiences because I've been able to meet amazing people and help students who were once in my shoes. I had the opportunity to speak at the Woodbridge Campus First Year Experience Convocation. I also coproduced a short film that was presented at convocation called, The Five Steps for Being a Good Student. The film gave new students advice on how to be a successful student and make good choices. It was an awesome experience!
When you first apply and become a student at NOVA, I think it's important to attend SOAR and New Student Orientation sessions because they help you understand the different resources available to you on your campus. A few weeks ago I met a student new to NOVA. She was in the process of trying to obtain financial aid for the year and was confused about the application process. I explained to her how the process worked. Assisting people in this way is very rewarding to me. I feel like I've helped to make a difference in someone's college experience.
